Impact of climate, soil properties and grassland cover on soil water repellency

چکیده

Numerous soil water repellency (SWR) studies have investigated the possible causes of this temporal phenomenon, yet there remains a lack knowledge on order importance main driving forces SWR in context changing environmental conditions under grassland ecosystems. To study separate and combined effects texture, climate, cover type inducing or altering SWR, four sites from different climatic regions were selected: Ciavolo (CI, IT), Csólyospálos (CSP, HU), Pwllpeiran (PW, UK), Sekule (SE, SK). The parameters extent (determined by indices RI, RIc RIm) persistence drop penetration time (WDPT) cessation time, WRCT) as well field (Sw) ethanol (Se) sorptivity, sorptivity hydrophobic state (Swh) nearly wettable (Sww) hydraulic conductivity (K). Our findings showed an area land has greater likelihood being repellent if it sandy texture and/or high frequency prolonged drought events. Water infiltration was positively correlated with all sorptivities (r = 0.32–0.88), but mostly negatively RI – 0.54 at CI), WDPT 0.47 CI) WRCT 0.58 CI). natural synanthropized vegetation covers regards to not coherent; moving having coarser drier zones led higher risk conditions. Climate change been predicted lead more frequent extreme weather events dry periods across Europe, which will most likely increase SWR-affected areas role management Therefore, is need determine prevent decreases moisture content, fertility, carbon nitrogen sink potentials, biomass production related agro-ecosystems.

Impact of Grazing on Soil Biota in a Mediterranean Grassland

The effect of cattle grazing on the soil nematode and protozoan communities, and on microbial biomass, was measured in Israel’s northern highlands. Three grazing areas were compared: (1) with 1 1 cow ha 1 y ; (2) 0 55 cow ha 1 y ; and (3) control—no grazing for almost 18 years. Soil samples were collected from the upper 10 cm level of each area (n1⁄4 24), in autumn, before the onset of the rain...

Hydrologic responses of watershed assessment to land cover and climate change using soil and water assessment tool model

Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...

The impact of shallow cover on tunnelling in soft soil

Shield tunnelling is used widely in constructing underground infrastructure in cities due to the ability to limit settlements and damage to existing buildings. However, in an environment with soft overburden and buildings on pile foundations, the tunnel is often designed well below the pile tip level. There are two reasons for doing this: to reduce interaction between tunnelling process and pil...
